Heartless Revenge Workout for Novizio Derby.
Aaron led the colt out to the track once again. It was nice to go to a more private track once in awhile. Akita Rose Stables only had one horse competing right now in this prestigious Risorgimento Cup. It was all up to Heartless Revenge to bring home a win. This had better be worth it all the trouble.
Heartless shook his mane and nudged his jockey. It had been some nice bonding time between the two men. Aaron looked around the empty track and brought his mount to the mounting block. It was actually quite eery out here by themselves. It was weird. Aaron mounted just as Heartless pulled away from the block. Aaron fell to the ground. Maybe it was a good thing there was no one around. Heartless side stepped and whinnied. He could not see where Aaron was. Aaron jumped up and grabbed a strong hold on the reins. It was a good thing the black colt had not tried running off. Kirsten would have killed him. Heartless Revenge was a very prized and expensive horse. If anything were to happen to the horse... Aaron shivered. He needed to be more careful with this colt. It was a miracle that Kirsten had trusted him alone here in the first place.
Aaron mounted the horse and walked to the gap. It would have been better if a groom would have led them but oh well... too late now. As soon as the horse hit the track he started to pull at the bit and dance on his toes. He was getting excited. The big horse didn't need a crowd or other horses around, he was still raring to go. It has been almost a month the horse had been resting up for this race and now in a few days he would finally be running in it.
Aaron smiled to himself. The Admiral's Revenge son had a very VERY good chance at winning it. He had been one of the first ones here practicing on the track and had taken to it quite nicely. Akita Rose Stables had hoped for a Triple Crown winner with this horse but unfortunately they had been gone from the track at that time. Aaron blushed. It was partially his fault they had left the racing scene. He swallowed the ball that was in his throat and focused on his ride.
They would be galloping a mile and a half and then breezing the last quarter. It would be a good workout for the colt to prepare for the race. He would probably be trying to take it wire to wire so he would need some good endurance to keep a lot left for the end. His racing style was a tough one but he was good at keeping a good pace and having enough left at the end. Hopefully he would be able to take a win home on the weekend.
Aaron gave a little lead to Heartless and allowed him to move into a gallop. The colt tugged for more and when Aaron refused to give any he settled into a smooth ground eating gallop. They would be ready on Saturday. They had to be.
