The dark bay colt, danced as Adele Rodgers sat astride. His eyes fairly rolled. He was definitely in a dark mood today. Easy Boy...she crooned. his auds flicked back in her direction. It was a week since their last running and Predator had placed an impressive second in his very first running. Adele remembered the moment with vivid clarity.
The moment they clenched 2nd she had fairly been on cloud nine! Naturally, she had to have him quickly removed from the track...his eyes glared at the black filly, Midnight Thriller.... and he would have gone after her too. One thing was for sure...it was never a dull moment around Pred.
That was his first race...imagine how he would do as he progressed in his racing career. Adele's head began to swim with expectation and excitement...Oh the places they would go.
Adele dreamed of Derby's and BC's, while she clucked to her mount. He immediately responded, breaking easily from his trot, into a light canter. Adele took him around the track, slowing warming the colt up. The longer they worked, the more heated the colt's attitude became. It was as if he knew that every step in this work-out would lead to the reward. The reward of being able to simply run....Adele knew that was just how her boy let his anger out. She still hadn't figured out what made him such an irritable colt. Some, she guessed, were just born that way...Predator was living proof of that.
His next Maiden was in the second week of November. It would be a 9 F race against a unique field. So far, all the competition like Predator came from unknown linage...this would make the field unpredictable...Adele giggled with anticipation. This would be a fun race indeed.
Predator was now at his limit, his anger at being held in check. Adele sensed this, they had thoroughly warmed up she now saw no harm in letting him blow off some steam. She jockeyed into her crouch and gave the colt his head.
Off they flew like a falcon...flying straight and true over the dirt track. Adele smiled, the wind flying in her face. O yes...they were flying and again they would fly to meet all challengers in the coming three weeks.
