KNIGHT ROUSSEAU prep for Consumato Derby
Aaron shivered with excitement as he walked the grounds of Intrepid Racing Inc. He loved any excuse to walk through prestigious stables like this one. There was so much old school racehorse blood and horses residing here. It was one of the stables that Aaron used to dream of riding for. Akita Rose Stables was fine of course but this stable was just legendary. If only he could somehow have an excuse to break into the stallion barn and take a good up close look at Admiral's Revenge. He grinned. Yeah right, I'd lose my job for sure. And probably be banned from Intrepid Racing for good.
He strode up to the boarding stalls and leaned against the stall door and reached in to give the mighty five year old stallion a good pat. Rousseau lunged at him and Aaron jumped back just in time to avoid a hard crunch of his teeth. "Geez! You monster!" Aaron frowned and stared at the big bay in anger. He has been working with the brute since Rousseau had been just a little weanling. Yet the stallion still hated everyone in sight. Aaron was hopeful that Rousseau would be able to retire in style and move his anger into the breeding barn. Hopefully his foals won't be as scary to train. Mind you, Rousseau was just like his father: Night Stalker, except a little more psycho. Night Stalker has been heard of to kill (he killed one lady) and Rousseau has not... thank goodness. But if a person wasn't careful they easily could become a victim of the big brute. Night Stalker had sure loved the mares though, constantly breaking free and getting into the broodmare pastures, maybe Rousseau will be like that too. Kirsten had just recently gelded Stalker to prevent some mistakes happening and now she might gain another problem once Rousseau realizes how fun it is to have lady friends.
Aaron grinned mischievously, and it WAS fun. He chuckled to himself. He grabbed the lead shank next to the stall and clipped it to Rousseau's halter. "Let's go you big brute. It's time to work." Play was for later.
Fifteen minutes later Aaron was on his way to the special track with a very grumpy stallion on the end of the reins. They were getting a work in before the Consumato Derby this weekend. It was a very important race from them, even though there was only one other competitor. Kirsten wanted him to win this one as a prep for some other races. She was also hoping for him to run in the final race of the Risorgimento Cup - the Risorgimento Derby. Aaron wondered if they were going to enter the stallion in the final prep race for it as well, that will run next week. It was a possibility. It would be run on ARS' home track so it would be even more special for Rousseau to win it.
After a leg up Aaron steered the blood bay stallion on to the track. The horse's body was stiff and uptight. Aaron started to get Rousseau into the warm ups but Rousseau had other plans. He started into a series of bucks and rears as Aaron hung on for dear life. He was used to this. He had never hit the ground harder or more often with any other horse. Soon Rousseau settled down and started trotting down the track but Aaron wasn't fooled. The second phrase would star… Aaron went up in the air. He knew it would come. Just as he felt his hands slipping from Rousseau's mane the brute settled down and shook his mane.
Aaron settled back into the saddle and kicked Rousseau into action. "Now that you got that out of your system. Let's get down to business." They had a lot of work to do if they were going to keep winning...
