It had only been a week since Amber Black had had her tour of Intrepid and now she found herself back and recounting her steps to the sales barn. Intrepid was having a sale and she found herself very excited. She was mainly looking for breeding stock at this sale, so as soon as she entered the barn she zoned in on the first stall. The mare Admiral's Holiday was for sale, and she was by Admiral's Revenge and out of Summer Holiday. Amber smirked. This was a horse she was looking for.
Amber flicked through her mobile device as she quickly refreshed her memory of the mare's bloodlines. Then she looked a bit closer. A clipboard outside the mare's stall detailed more information. She was a classic mare who preferred all surfaces and had run an amazing career. She was unproven as a brood but only six years old. This was definitely a horse Amber wanted in her barn later on.
So she moved on in her inspection and when she arrived at the sales ring she seated herself and waited. The mare was led out first and she was only too happy to be the first to place a bid. One reserve to Confianza. She planned to breed Mirage in year thirteen and to combine her bloodlines in increasingly diabolical combinations. [/sub]

Millie had left Josh to look at In Front by himself, as she was interested in Admiral's Holiday and wanted to take a closer look. She felt that she needed a proven racer to add to her broodmares as she struggled to find mares to breed when it came to breeding season. Admiral's Holiday seemed to fit the description perfectly. To make things even better, she was sire by tripple crown winner Admiral's Revenge! Millie, infact everyone at Oak Hill, love the line that Intrepid Racing produced and at every opportunity they were willing the snap up any blood from there that they could, whether it be breedings or sales. They had recently purchased Bacciami from Intrepid Racing and they were ever so excited for him to hit the prospect ring next year! As Millie grew closer to the mare's stall she saw that someone else was enquiring about the mare aswell. She stood back a little, before realising that the other person was infact Amber Black from Stride of Perfection Stables.
Millie made her way towards Amber and the handler. She introduced herself and began to take a look at the mare. She was exactly how Nick had described her and Millie could imagine her fitting in perfectly with the other broods she had waiting back home. After petting the mare a little and taking a look at her, Millie confirmed her interest and made an offer. Well, im not sure what you'd be looking for in return for this fine mare, but we're willing to offer a reserve from any of our horses, racing or retired. I'm not sure who you'd prefer so I figured you could chose your self? If you'd like.

Amber recognized Millie from Oak Hill Farm and grinned and said hello. She was friendly with Millie and liked her and the operation she ran at Oak Hill. But right now they were competition in the sale for this mare and Amber knew this was definitely one purchase she wanted to make. We are willing to offer one reserve to Confianza as well as a reserve to the first foal of Mirage's that we breed she replied calmly in turn to Millie's offer. Her eyes were bright with the excitement of challenge and she knew that this was one mare she wasn't going to leave easily without.

Thoughts flew quickly through Millie's mind as she quickly tried to figure out a new offer, without seeming hesitant. We're willing to give away two reserves from our stock if you like? Millie was unsure of how her stock would go down with Intrepid Racing. She had a few very sucessful broods and studs, but she wasn't even too sure if these were Intrepid Racing's cup of tea. Dare To Dream was probably her most acomplished brood as she was inducted into the Hall Of Fame, but it was arguable that Once Upon A Time proved herself as a better race horse.

Kirsten sat at the back of the room and watched the crowd go crazy. She had known it would get this way. Intrepid Racing Inc. had great stock with amazing bloodlines and potential. She sat back and crossed her legs. Emma looked to her mother with big eyes. "Mom! Aren't you going to bid already? You said you wanted this mare!" Kirsten grinned and nodded. Indeed she did want this mare. Badly.
This year ARS had been awarded a prize on TW for the Hottest Mares Around and she wanted to maintain that reputation. She honestly loved her broodmares and they are just throwing nicer and nicer foals every year. A grade one stakes mare with War Admiral's bloodlines would complete the deal. Kirsten had been around to see Admiral's Holiday race and had enjoyed the filly from the get go. She had disappeared for awhile but somehow resurfaced and now was the time for a bidding war, in fact the mare had one foal on the ground already and Kirsten planned on bidding for him too.
Emma elbowed her in the ribs. "Mama!" Kirsten shook her head. Not yet... Emma sighed and sat back in her seat. It was a good thing for the girl to come to these things. She had a lot to learn.
The bidding was increasing. It was now or never to throw in a good carve ball. She doubted anyone had even noticed her in the back of the room. ARS never missed a sale.
Emma looked at her again and Kirsten nodded. Emma smiled. Kirsten stood and gestured to the auctioneer. She was about to make an offer that Cavallo would not be able to resist. "One million dollars and the final breeding of Legendary Grade One Stakes Champion: Queen of Hearts" She smiled and sat back down. Queen of Hearts was ARS' Best Broodmare. She was the mother of G1 Fleet Goddess, G1 Limitless Time, G1 Dark Sunrise, Heartless Revenge, Sugar Jayde, A Royal Legacy and My Man O War.

Amber frowned as Kirsten Jade chimed in with a breeding to Queen of Hearts. That indeed was a hard bid to top...but she would stick to what she had. She wanted this mare. Our previous two reserves and a monetary offer of one and a half million.

The gavel dropped and the auctioneer stopped all bidding. Ladies, thank you so much for your bids. The time of bidding is over. We will take your highest offers and present them to the owner, where he will come to a decision. He smiled graciously, took the offers on his paper and stepped back from the podium.
The grizzled old auctioneer walked back to Nick, where he'd been listening in the back. He smiled at the younger man. Well son...you've got some solid offers here...any one of them will be mighty fair. The grizzled man rubbed his chin and handed over the paper to Nick. He perused each offer.
Amber had a lot of broodmares. As did Kirsten. Millie had a good number as well, though none as proven as the other two larger stables. He was torn. Kirsten's offer was fair in his eyes. In essence...they were trading a brood, for a brood. Fair enough. Amber's offer was still as generous. Through contract stipulations, he automatically got a reserve to the grade one mare for sale. No matter where she went, he'd have a retainer on her...but this wasn't about that. This was about sending her to a responsible breeder. A place that needed this mare. He looked into the crowd. This was a hard decision to make, but one had to be made and quickly.
Nick circled the offer he was accepting. The old man took the paper and put his glasses on to read. His eyebrows raised. Even he was shocked. Okay sir, congrats on your sale. He ambled back up the steps onto the platform and took the podium.
We are pleased to announce that an offer has been accepted. The auctioneer read the paper again to make sure he was reading this correctly. Admiral's Holiday will be going to Amber of Stride of Perfection Stables, for the price of two reserves - one Confianza and second on the first foal of Mirage; and the price of one and a half million dollars. He dropped his gavel, ending the sale of the mare. Nick nodded as his mare was led back to the claiming area. Well...what used to be his mare anyways. He had needed Mirage to go to a more selective breeding center and he knew SOPS was the place for this mare. He had been mightily tempted by the other offers, but this wasn't about the perks of the sale...this was making sure this mare went somewhere that could develop her into a brood of champions. Nick had his hands full of broods he was developing and SOPS could use a project... He walked to the back and waited for Amber to come claim her prize.

She bit her lip with disappointment. She had really wanted this mare. It was too bad. Emma looked at her and shrugged. "There is still Jericho Mom" Kirsten nodded and let out a sigh. You win some and you lose some. I guess she will save Queen of Hearts last breeding for herself. It was just as well anyways, she was really picky with her broodmare's offspring. She waved to the owners of Intrepid and waited for the next horse to come out. She was not going to let Jericho go.

Amber smiled widely, pleased that she had won the mare. It would be totally worth it too. She had already been scheming potential crosses in her head and had nearly settled on one. She just needed that extra assurance. Admiral's Holiday had great dirt classic lines though she preferred all surfaces. She would fit like a glove into her breeding plans. Thus she stood and went to the claiming area, a grin still on her face. Upon seeing Nick her grin widened. You're going to regret selling me Mirage once you see how fast her foals are she commented in her typical manner. I've already got her first date finalized - Radiance, son of True Enough, Breeders Cup Classic winner. They should cross well and we'll have a Triple Crown contender on our hands. Now Amber let herself approach the mare, reaching out a hand for her to sniff, eyes tracing the mare's conformation critically now that she had a closer look. She was perfect.
