Michael Landing with Nightshade Preparing for GHF's Next Top Racehorse - R10* - P 10F D
They were coming late into the game, but everyone had to start somewhere. The black bay yearling filly, turned to sniff the racing saddle on her back. She had taken to the bit decently and after a year of Micheal's she didn't even flinch when she heard the jingle of tack and gear..if anything she was sticking her head out of her stall. Her dominant assertive attitude always wanting to know what was going on around her and how she could either control or manipulate her circumstances. She was a crafty girl.
Michael smiled at the filly's antics. He was proud of how this Frontier X Requiem filly was turning out. Sure there was a lot of work to be done, but he was fairly confident that the cards would one day be played in her favor. Nightshade's dam, came from a successful line. Her sire was Augusto. He had sired champions. TC, BC winners and Twightlight stake winners..Requiem's dam was our very own Rosalind. Rosalind in her own right was a proven broodmare. She had begotten Admiral's Revenge an MHS TC winner and Admirable a successful G1 Mare and full sibling to the TC winner. Intrepid Racing was surprised to see how well Requiem lined foals were doing here at GHF, hopefully Atropa could live up to that expectation. She had some successful half-siblings here and Michael was hoping that this would play into her favor.
Nightshade's sire, Frontier had a short-lived racing career, but had the goods to deliver. His bloodlines came from Fly High Silver, a proven race mare that was a BC Mare/Filly winner and Twilight Stakes Winner - a prestigious race off GHF. Her foals had achieved glorified success in outside rings, even producing eventing champions in IGS's GS Ultimate Challenge. Other successful memorable foals being: Geronimo - Twilight stakes winner, Finished second in all TC Races, Mockingbird - 1st The Wire Finish Cup Dirt, 2nd Rising Fury Memorial Stakes, 2nd GHF Breeders' Cup Classic Y7/
The bloodlines of Atropa were a little different than what GHF was used to, but hopefully that wasn't going to be an issue. He had every intention of giving this dazzling yearling filly the chance she deserved to attempt the impossible.
Michael rubbed the filly's forehead and she pressed her head fully into him..about knocking him over. Even though she was a yearling, she was already growing at an alarming rate. He shouldn't have been surprised. Most Rosalind lined horses stood fairly tall. Atropa wouldn't prove to be an exception. Easy girl, you're about to knock me over! He pushed the filly and she tossed her head and gave a shrill call, as if slightly offended at being spurned by her handler...the audacity!
Michael smiled and led the filly to the track. He saw her eyes dance as she saw their destination. She let loose another shrill bugle as though to challenge all present on the track..claiming it as her domain. Now that was an Augusto trait. He smiled as he led the filly onto the track iron shodded hooves sank into the dirt track and immediately the black bay filly felt at home.
That's my girl. She was all fire and passion. A dominating force that was ready to tear into the face of this track.
Let's do this. The long journey...was now begun.
