Limitless Time Workout for the Risorgimento Derby.
They were back for the second time in a month at Intrepid Racing Inc. Kirsten and Limitless made their way to the outdoor track for their morning workout. It was almost like a "deja vu". There were no horses around, no people, no activity, nothing. Limitless stopped and stared at the track flaring his nostrils. "It's spooky eh bud?" Limitless stood still. Kirsten stopped to enjoy the view as well. It was just three weeks ago that Limitless had placed second to Dashing in the Firelight in the Consumato Derby. He had almost won that race.
Kirsten reached over and patted the tall stallion. "You remember don't ya?" He had almost had the mare at the wire but she had taken it in the photo finish. Limitless flicked his tail and lowered his neck. Kirsten led him to the fence and jumped onto his back. He stood perfectly still. He was used to Kirsten mounting like that. It probably wasn't the smartest idea to be riding on the track alone but Kirsten didn't care. She had nothing to fear with Limitless. The pair were compatible riders and Kirsten loved to ride this horse. She had never had a horse with such an amazing closing kick before and she loved it. It felt like they were flying towards the wire when Limitless made his move. She was going to miss riding this guy.
They moved onto the track and started jogging near the outside rail. Kirsten mentally prepared herself for the race. So far there were no other entries but there were many horses nominated. Stride of Perfection was for sure going to enter but will they enter just one horse or all three? If Dashing in the Firelight was going to be in it than Kirsten had to remember the mare's abilities. She had beaten her stallion before and it could very well happen again.
Limitless threw his head up and tried to force the pace. Kirsten held on tightly and shook her head. "Easy boy" Limitless tossed his head in frustration and continued his easy jog. They turned around and Kirsten released her mount into a canter towards the forth pole. They would be doing a four furlong work this morning.
Star Thoroughbreds would for sure be entering at least one of their horses as well. Well they should... they were all worthy competitors who could easily beat her horse as well. The more she thought about it the more she worried. Limitless wasn't having a lucky year this year and Kirsten was worried he was losing his edge. Was she being a fool for entering him in the Breeder's Cup Classic?
Once they reached their pole Kirsten released the horse and let him run. He did his usual slow start but once he got going he really started to pick up some speed. After each pole she released him just a little bit more. The stallion had needed no encouragement. This was how he always ran. Faster and faster until they reached the wire. Both human and horse were out of breath. That was how they ran.
